Blues Education

614BluesEd

After years of bringing Blues In The Schools to local classrooms, CBA wanted to do more. With the blessing of the Blues Society of Omaha, we created a Columbus version of its BluesEd program. 614BluesEd gives skilled musicians under 21 a curriculum-based education in blues performance and the music industry, including the business of being a professional musician.

About the Program

The 614 Allstars is a year-round performance and education program for young blues musicians ages 14–20. Led by Jeff McCargish, music teacher at Fort Hayes Arts and Academic High School, participants rehearse one to two days a week and receive coaching on performing, recording, and the real business of being a professional musician.

CBA currently has two active bands — a seasoned seven-piece group and a younger ensemble full of emerging talent — giving young musicians at every stage a place to develop and grow.

Memphis Moments

The 614 Allstars have showcased at the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tennessee — performing on one of the most storied stages in blues music. It's a milestone that speaks to the quality of this program and the dedication of everyone involved. Memphis isn't the finish line. It's proof of what these young musicians are capable of!
